Four Held After Ganja Suppliers Attack Raiding Police Team in Fathenagar

Alleged ganja suppliers stabbed police personnel and set their dog on a raiding party during an enforcement operation in Fathenagar and Balanagar, police said on Thursday. Despite the violent resistance and an attempt by the suspects to flee, law enforcement officials overpowered and detained four accused individuals identified as Durga Prasad, Ravi, Kamlakar, and Kiran.

The joint operation was carried out by teams from the Cyberabad EAGLE Force and the Hyderabad Narcotics Bureau. Investigators had targeted the gang over suspicions of smuggling bulk quantities of ganja from Odisha into the city for retail distribution over the past four months.

During the crackdown, police arrested an alleged peddler identified as Kaliwala Ajay, a local fruit vendor based in Fathenagar. Officials seized 17.8 grams of ganja during the raid. Ajay’s 78-year-old grandmother, Chandramma, who is suspected of selling five-gram ganja packets for Rs 500 each outside her residence, managed to escape the scene.

As part of the operation, the raiding party intercepted 31 individuals who had arrived from various parts of Hyderabad to purchase narcotics from the gang. According to EAGLE Force Director Sandeep Shandilya, the intercepted individuals were subjected to tests, with 29 testing positive for drug consumption. Three of them were caught carrying small packets of ganja.

Police noted that the identified consumers were mostly around 25 years of age and admitted during questioning that they had been addicted to the narcotic for over two years. Information gathered during the interrogation revealed that Fathenagar, Nanakramguda, and Dhoolpet serve as prominent supply points for marijuana distribution across the city.
