Former Telangana DGP Anjani Kumar Conferred Lifetime Achievement Award

Former Director General of Police (DGP) of Telangana Anjani Kumar was conferred the Lifetime Achievement Award in Dehradun by Uttarakhand Governor Lieutenant General Gurmeet Singh. The award was presented in recognition of his distinguished contribution to policing and public service across a career spanning more than three decades.

Anjani Kumar, a 1990-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer who previously served as the Commissioner of Police in Hyderabad, was among three senior civil and police service officers honoured at the function. The other two recipients were Sameer Sinha, an Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer from Uttarakhand, and Meenakshi Negi, an IFS officer from Karnataka.

Anjani Kumar began his policing career as an Assistant Superintendent of Police in Jangaon in the erstwhile Warangal district. He subsequently served as the Superintendent of Police in Guntur and Prakasam districts. His career in the state also included postings as the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Nizamabad and Guntur ranges, DIG of the Crime Investigation Cell, and Inspector General of Police (IGP) of the elite Greyhounds unit. He also served in the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) while on central deputation.

During his career, he served on an international deployment with the United Nations International Police Task Force in Bosnia between 1998 and 1999. His performance during that mission earned him the United Nations Peace Medal twice. In addition, he was awarded the Indian Police Medal for Meritorious Service, the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service, and the Antrik Suraksha Medal for his contributions to internal security and anti-extremism operations.

From March 2018 to December 2021, Anjani Kumar served as the Commissioner of Police for Hyderabad, where he worked on strengthening city policing, public safety measures, and community-oriented policing initiatives. He later headed the Anti-Corruption Bureau before serving as the DGP of Telangana.
