Former MNC Employee Arrested in Gachibowli for Stealing Laptops to Pay Betting Debts

The Raidurgam police arrested a 23-year-old former MNC employee in Gachibowli on June 26 for allegedly stealing laptops from area hostels to clear debts he accumulated through online betting. The accused, identified as Nagishetty Jashwanth, was remanded to judicial custody on June 27 after police recovered four stolen laptops valued at approximately ₹2.5 lakh from his possession.
The investigation began after victims lodged complaints on June 22 regarding three laptop thefts at the MR Grand Hostel in Khajaguda. In response, the Raidurgam police initiated a probe and analyzed closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage captured at different places. This surveillance footage helped officers identify and track down Jashwanth, leading to his arrest in the Gachibowli area.
According to the police, Jashwanth is a former multinational corporation employee originally from Rompicherla in the Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh. He had recently been working as a private worker before turning to theft.
During his interrogation, the accused confessed to his involvement in the crimes. Raidurgam Inspector Ch Venkanna stated that Jashwanth admitted to committing several laptop thefts within the jurisdiction of the Raidurgam police station over the past six months. The inspector explained that the accused had run up a debt of ₹2 lakh due to an addiction to online betting and resorted to stealing electronic devices to clear his financial obligations.
Further investigation by the police revealed that Jashwanth had stolen a total of eight laptops over the past five months from various hostels situated across the Madhapur and Raidurgam neighbourhoods.
Of the eight stolen devices, the accused had already sold four through the Cashify application. The police successfully recovered the remaining four laptops from his possession, which have an estimated total value of ₹2.5 lakh. Following his arrest on June 26, Jashwanth was produced before a local magistrate on June 27 and was subsequently remanded to judicial custody.
