Former Minister OSD Booked for Assaulting Realtor in Jubilee Hills

Police have booked an extortion and assault case against Sumanth, a former Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to Endowments Minister Konda Surekha, and his associates for allegedly assaulting a 36-year-old realtor with an iron rod at an office in Jubilee Hills.

The case was registered following a complaint lodged by realtor Gongidi Harikrishna. Sumanth and his associates, identified as Prashanth, Arun Kumar Reddy, Karthik, Mahender Reddy, and others, have been booked on charges of assault, causing injuries, criminal intimidation, and illegal confinement. Police noted that Sumanth also allegedly spoke about a Rs 10-crore extortion demand.

According to Harikrishna's complaint, his friend Ramu called him and asked him to come to his office in Jubilee Hills. Harikrishna, accompanied by a person named Kiran, reached the office around 9:45 pm on Thursday, where Sumanth, Ramu, and several others were already present.

Harikrishna alleged that Sumanth confronted and questioned him over collecting money using his name. When Harikrishna denied the allegation, Sumanth verbally abused him and attacked him on his hands and legs using an iron rod. The complainant further stated that Sumanth instigated his associates to kill him and issued threats of dire consequences if he disclosed the alleged Rs 10-crore extortion.

As a result of the assault, Harikrishna suffered a fracture to his left hand, bleeding injuries, and vomited blood. Two police constables later arrived at the scene and shifted Harikrishna to the Jubilee Hills police station, where a formal complaint was recorded.

Harikrishna had also initially approached the Medipally police regarding the incident. Medipally Sub-Inspector D. Yakanna registered a Zero FIR in Crime No. 3 of 2026 under Section 109 read with 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) before transferring the case to the Jubilee Hills police station on jurisdictional grounds. Harikrishna informed investigators that Sumanth had previously called him around 5 pm on July 30, asking to meet urgently.
