Food Safety Raid at Biottic Foods in Uppal Exposes Hygiene Violations

Food safety officials conducted an inspection at Biottic Foods Private Limited in Uppal, unearthing serious hygiene and food safety violations, including fungal growth in fruit drinks and unhygienic cold storage conditions. Following the drive, municipal authorities announced that formal notices will be served to the establishment with directives to rectify all observed deficiencies and improve hygiene practices.

During the raid at the Uppal facility, food safety officers found that the cold storage room utilized for storing ice cream was unhygienic. Freezers on the premises required proper defrosting and maintenance, while ice cream products were kept in an improper and unorganized manner.

The inspection team also discovered bottles of Raw Pressery Alphonso Mango fruit drink with visible fungal growth. Cleaning was not being conducted according to the prescribed schedule, leading to cobwebs throughout the premises. Officers noted that the floor of the cold room was slippery, while some products showed leakage along with dust accumulation on their outer packaging.

The action in Uppal was part of broader food safety drives across municipal zones. In nearby Ramanthapur, food safety officers from the Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation raided Landmaark restaurant, where they observed that the FSSAI licence was not displayed in a prominent location. The premises lacked adequate lighting, while walls and ceilings were found to be smoky and greasy.

Inspectors at the Ramanthapur restaurant also noted an improperly maintained drainage system, lack of cockroach traps, and slippery floors caused by accumulated food waste. Rat faeces were observed in the storeroom, and stale chicken and mutton were found stored in the refrigerator. Required pest control records were missing.

In a separate inspection by Cyberabad Municipal Corporation officers at Varnam near Genpact Lane in Hafeezpet, teams uncovered water stagnation, unlabelled foods, fungus on cauliflower, spoiled vegetables, and missing testing records.

Officials confirmed that separate notices will be served for all observed violations, directing management at the inspected locations to rectify deficiencies and adhere strictly to food safety and sanitation standards.
