Families of Two Brain Dead Persons in Hyderabad Donate Six Organs

HYDERABAD — The families of two brain dead individuals have donated six vital organs to patients in need under the Telangana government's Jeevandan organ donation initiative, after both patients were declared brain dead at private hospitals in Hyderabad on Monday, August 17.

The donors were identified as 60-year-old Eaga Ramesh, a farmer from Kareemabad in Warangal, and 20-year-old Manne Karthik, a B.Tech student from Kondakal in Shankerpally.

Ramesh collapsed at his residence on August 15 following a sudden spike in blood pressure. His family members immediately shifted him to a private hospital in Hyderabad for emergency medical treatment. Despite intensive efforts by medical teams, his condition did not improve, and doctors officially declared him brain dead on Monday, August 17. Following the diagnosis, his wife, Eaga Aruna, gave consent to harvest and donate his organs, providing two organs comprising a kidney and a liver to needy patients.

In a separate incident on August 16, Manne Karthik was involved in a road accident when his vehicle collided with a four-wheeler while he was travelling to his hometown. He was immediately rushed by family members to a private hospital for critical care. The attending doctors made extensive efforts to revive him, but his condition deteriorated, and he was declared brain dead on Monday, August 17.

Following the declaration, Karthik's father, Manne Narsimulu, agreed to donate his son's organs under the Jeevandan initiative. A total of four organs—two kidneys, one liver, and a pancreas—were harvested and allocated to patients awaiting life-saving transplants.

In total, the decisions taken by both grieving families enabled the retrieval and allocation of six donor organs to patients registered under the state organ donation network.
