Facial Recognition Helps Police Spot 8 Criminals at Lal Darwaza Bonalu

The Hyderabad Police detained 116 suspicious persons in Lal Darwaza during the Bonalu celebrations on August 9 and 10, using facial recognition technology to identify eight individuals with existing criminal records.
The deployment was managed by the CCS Special Crime Team in coordination with local police. Officers utilized cameras integrated with facial recognition software that connected directly to the police criminal database. The intensified surveillance was put in place to prevent pickpocketing, mobile theft, and chain-snatching during the festival events.
According to Additional Commissioner of Police (Crimes & SIT) M Srinivas, the eight identified individuals were taken into custody and handed over to concerned police stations for further action.
Police reported that zero cases of theft, mobile phone theft, or chain-snatching occurred across the two-day Bonalu festivities in the area.
