Elephant Sreedevi walks Old City route in Bibi-Ka-Alam procession trial

Organisers of the Bibi-Ka-Alam procession, in coordination with the Hyderabad City Police, conducted a trial run through the Old City of Hyderabad on Saturday, June 20, 2026. The trial walk was held to prepare for the main Muharram procession and map the traditional route starting from the Bibi ka Alawa.

The trial run featured an elephant named Sreedevi, who was brought to Hyderabad from Kerala. The jumbo arrived in the city three days prior to the event. Organisers and police conducted the walk as a practice measure to familiarise the elephant with the atmosphere that prevails during the actual procession.

During the trial run on Saturday, Sreedevi traversed the traditional route through several key localities in the Old City. The elephant passed through Yakutpura Bada Bazaar Road, Etebar Chowk, Alijah Kotla, Charminar, Gulzar Houz, Panjesha, Mandi Miralam, and Darulshifa.

Senior police officials were present at the Bibi ka Alawa to monitor the security and coordination of the event. Attendees included Hyderabad Commissioner of Police VC Sajjanar, Joint Commissioner of Police Tafseer Iqubal, and other police officers.

The main Bibi-Ka-Alam procession is scheduled to take place on June 26, 2026, coinciding with the 10th day of Muharram.
