Electric Cars Account for 12.5 Percent of New Car Sales in Telangana in 2025-26

Electric car registrations outpaced electric two-wheelers across Telangana during the 2025-26 financial year, with electric cars accounting for 12.5 percent of all new passenger car sales in the state, according to a month-wise analysis released by the state transport department in Hyderabad.

The data revealed that electric cars maintained a double-digit market share in new car sales during every single month of the financial year. At peak adoption periods, electric cars crossed the 15 percent threshold of monthly car sales across Telangana.

In total, 18,853 electric cars were registered across the state during the financial year out of approximately 1.50 lakh total new car registrations. This meant that nearly one in every eight new four-wheelers sold in Telangana was battery powered.

In contrast, the market share of electric two-wheelers remained in single digits for much of the first half of the financial year. The state recorded 53,354 electric two-wheeler registrations during 2025-26, giving the segment an average market share of 8.9 percent.

The overall share of electric vehicles across all vehicle categories in Telangana stood at 8.8 percent for the year. Electric cars consistently maintained a higher market share compared to electric two-wheelers throughout the twelve-month period, reflecting rising acceptance of electric mobility in the passenger car segment.
