EkChitra Art Gallery Opens New Space and Printmaking Studio in Hyderabad

EkChitra Art Gallery has officially opened the doors to its expansive new address in Hyderabad, adding a significant physical space to the city's visual arts ecosystem. The newly inaugurated venue is designed to support diverse art forms and cultural initiatives across the city.

Founded by artist and curator Annapurna Madipadiga, the new EkChitra has been built with the scale, flexibility, and infrastructure required to accommodate large exhibitions, multiple artistic disciplines, and a wide-ranging programme of cultural activity.

A core feature of the new gallery is its flexible spatial design. This layout allows the venue to move beyond conventional exhibition formats and showcase a broad variety of mediums, including painting, sculpture, textiles, ceramics, installations, photography, mixed media, performances, and interdisciplinary projects.

In addition to its exhibition halls, the gallery houses a permanent printmaking studio. The dedicated facility was conceived specifically to promote and strengthen artistic engagement with printmaking as an artistic medium.

Speaking about the milestone, Annapurna Madipadiga said, “EkChitra has grown organically through exhibitions, collaborations, conversations and relationships with artists and audiences.”

The gallery inaugurated the space with the opening of an exhibition titled Transition: A Continuity to Change — An Ode to Identities in Flux. The exhibition brings together young artists from across India working in diverse disciplines, including textiles, sculpture, painting, ceramics, and printmaking.

The inaugural show also demonstrates the operational possibilities of the new gallery, where different mediums can coexist within a single curatorial framework. This approach encourages dialogue between artistic practices that have historically been separated into distinct categories such as fine art, craft, and decorative art.

The launch gathering was attended by notable figures, including Anju Poddar, Deva Katta, Venkatesh Maha, Anand Sai, BA Reddy, Shankar Pamarthy, and other members of the Hyderabad art fraternity.
