Eight Injured in Three-Car Pile-Up on Hyderabad-Vijayawada Highway Near Choutuppal

Eight people were injured on Sunday, June 28, 2026, in a major three-vehicle collision on the Hyderabad-Vijayawada National Highway near Gundrampally in Chityala mandal of Nalgonda district. The injured victims were immediately rushed to the Government Hospital in Choutuppal for treatment following the accident, which also triggered a massive five-kilometre traffic jam on the highway leading towards Hyderabad.
The accident occurred after a car travelling towards Vijayawada suffered a sudden tyre burst. According to preliminary information, the tyre burst caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle. The car then crossed over the highway median and overturned directly onto the opposite carriageway, which carries traffic heading towards Hyderabad.
Two other cars that were travelling towards Hyderabad on the opposite side of the highway could not stop in time. Both of these vehicles crashed into the first overturned car. The chain-reaction collision was severe enough to cause all three vehicles involved to overturn on the road, leaving them heavily damaged.
Local authorities and emergency responders were alerted to the pile-up. A total of eight injured passengers were rescued from the overturned vehicles. They were transported to the Government Hospital in Choutuppal to receive medical care. At the time of reporting, the identities of the injured individuals and the specific extent of their injuries had not yet been confirmed.
The three overturned vehicles blocked the road, completely disrupting the flow of vehicles heading towards Hyderabad. This blockage resulted in a traffic jam that quickly stretched for nearly five kilometres along the Hyderabad-bound carriageway of the national highway.
Local traffic police officers and personnel from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) arrived at the site of the accident to resolve the gridlock. The teams worked together to clear the damaged vehicles from the highway and restore normal traffic flow.
In addition to clearing the road, the traffic police began collecting details from the scene to conduct an investigation. Officers are currently working to ascertain the precise circumstances that led to the initial tyre burst and the subsequent multi-vehicle collision.
