Eight Injured After Lift Crashes in Hanuman Nagar Apartment in Meerpet

Eight people were injured, including one who is currently in critical condition, after an elevator crashed and plunged from the fourth floor to the ground floor at an apartment building in Hanuman Nagar, Meerpet on Saturday, June 27, 2026. The victims had been visiting the residential property to inspect a flat that was put up for sale.

The group of visitors was led by Tirunagari Narasimha Swamy, a retired Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of the Judicial Department. Swamy, along with his relatives, had arrived at the apartment building accompanied by estate agent Dileep Kumar to view Flat No 501.

According to the Meerpet police, the group completed their inspection of the fifth-floor flat and subsequently boarded the building's lift to return to the ground floor. During their descent, the lift reportedly came to a sudden halt near the fourth floor before completely failing and crashing straight down to the ground floor. The impact of the crash left all eight occupants inside the lift injured.

The injured individuals have been identified by the authorities as Tirunagari Narasimha Swamy, 62; Padmini, 51; T Venkateswarlu, 75; T Nirmala, 69; P Gopala Swamy, 71; P Renuka, 65; T Padma, 68; and T Shobha, 64.

Following the crash, the victims were immediately rushed to a private hospital located in LB Nagar for medical treatment. Medical professionals at the hospital stated that one of the victims is in critical condition, while the remaining seven individuals suffered various injuries to different parts of their bodies.

The Meerpet police arrived at the accident site shortly after the incident to secure the area and initiate an investigation. Local police officials are currently investigating the exact cause of the elevator crash, focusing on whether the incident was the result of poor lift maintenance or a sudden technical malfunction.
