Eight Injured After Elevator Plunges From Fourth Floor in Meerpet Apartment

Eight people were injured, with one in critical condition, after an elevator plunged from the fourth floor to the ground floor of an apartment building at Hanumannagar in Meerpet on Sunday afternoon. The victims had visited the residential building to inspect a newly constructed flat that was put up for sale.
According to the Meerpet police, the incident occurred after the group completed their inspection of the flat. All eight visitors boarded the elevator together to descend. While moving down, the elevator reportedly came to an abrupt halt near the fourth floor before plunging directly to the ground floor.
Residents of the apartment building rushed to the spot after hearing a loud crash from the elevator shaft. They immediately alerted emergency services to assist the trapped passengers. The injured victims were quickly shifted to a private hospital in LB Nagar for medical attention.
Medical professionals at the hospital stated that one victim remains in critical condition, while the other seven individuals are undergoing treatment for multiple injuries sustained during the fall.
The police identified the eight injured persons as Tirunagari Narasimha Swamy, aged 62; Padmini, aged 51; T. Venkateswarlu, aged 75; T. Nirmala, aged 69; P. Gopala Swamy, aged 71; P. Renuka, aged 65; T. Padma, aged 68; and T. Shobha, aged 64.
Following the accident, the Meerpet police visited the apartment complex to inspect the scene and launched an investigation. Officials are currently examining whether the crash was caused by a technical malfunction, poor maintenance of the lift, or any other mechanical failure.
The elevator's maintenance records are also likely to be scrutinised by the authorities as part of their ongoing inquiry. Police officials stated that further action would be taken based on the final findings of the investigation.
