ECIL Udipi Hotel Rated 63% After Food Safety Officers Find Unhygienic Kitchen, Flies

Food safety officers from Kapra and Malkajgiri conducted a joint inspection at Sri Guru Raghavendra Udipi Vegetarian in ECIL, assigning the eatery a hygiene rating of 63 per cent after discovering widespread sanitary and food safety deficiencies.

The enforcement drive revealed unhygienic conditions across the establishment's kitchen and storage spaces. Food safety officers found uncovered food, an active housefly infestation, and improper storage practices. Semi-cooked food items were kept uncovered and without labels, while vegetables and other food were placed directly on the floor. Inspectors also discovered spoiled and rotten coconuts stored on the premises.

The inspection further documented physical maintenance failures within the facility. Enforcement officers recorded greasy and slippery floors, dirty walls, and unmaintained exhaust systems. The establishment was also flagged for inadequate ventilation and an insufficient number of dustbins.

Sanitation issues extended to the hotel's utility areas, where washing and drainage facilities were found to be unhygienic. Food handlers working at the venue were observed operating without proper protective gear, and officials noted that staff lacked required training.

Management at Sri Guru Raghavendra Udipi Vegetarian was also unable to demonstrate compliance with administrative regulations. During the check, officials requested medical fitness records for food handlers and pest-control documentation, but neither were produced. The findings were formally recorded as part of the joint enforcement operation by the two food safety teams.
