ECI Increases Telangana Polling Stations to 36,353, Adding 32 in Hyderabad

The Election Commission of India has approved the official rationalisation of polling stations across all 33 districts in Telangana, expanding the total number of stations in the state from 35,985 to 36,353. Telangana Chief Electoral Officer C Sudarshan Reddy detailed the revised figures in a statement issued on Wednesday, August 12, highlighting major updates across the state including 32 new polling stations added within Hyderabad in constituencies such as Bahadurpura, Karwan, Chandrayangutta, and Secunderabad Cantonment.

According to the figures shared by Chief Electoral Officer Reddy, a total of 460 new polling stations have been proposed across the state during this rationalisation exercise. Nalgonda district recorded the highest number of additions in Telangana, with 49 new stations set up across its six assembly constituencies. This addition raises the total count of polling stations in Nalgonda to 1,861.

Hyderabad district recorded the second-highest number of additions in the state, with 32 new polling stations added to its existing network. The new additions bring the overall total number of polling stations in Hyderabad district to 4,094.

Within the Hyderabad region, the Bahadurpura Assembly constituency received the highest number of new polling stations. With 18 new stations approved, Bahadurpura's total count has increased from 263 to 281 polling stations. Elsewhere in Hyderabad, the number of polling stations in the Karwan Assembly constituency rose from 311 to 316, while the Chandrayangutta Assembly constituency saw its total increase from 305 to 313 stations. The Secunderabad Cantonment Assembly constituency was allotted one additional station, bringing its final rationalised count to 232.

Beyond the creation of new locations, the rationalisation exercise included widespread modifications to existing electoral infrastructure across Telangana's 33 districts. Under the approved proposal, 551 polling stations have been designated for a change of location, while 335 polling stations will undergo a change in nomenclature. A total of 92 polling stations across the state have been marked for deletion or merger.
