Dozens Feared Injured After Two Trains Collide Near Bedfordshire

A collision between two trains south of the town of Bedfordshire, north of London, on Friday evening has triggered a major emergency response, with dozens of passengers feared injured. The crash occurred on the railway lines connecting St. Pancras station in central London to communities in central England, with emergency services receiving reports of the incident at 6:45 p.m.

Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue crews were among the first emergency responders dispatched to the crash site. Although official figures regarding the number of casualties were not immediately released by the authorities, local hospitals in the region were placed on high alert to receive injured passengers.

According to a report by The Times of London, staff at Bedford hospital were specifically alerted to prepare for the arrival of potentially as many as 50 injured individuals from the incident.

Witnesses at the scene described chaotic conditions immediately following the collision. Images circulating on social media showed several victims with bandages wrapped around their heads. Visuals from the aftermath also appeared to show the two damaged trains still standing on the tracks.

Peter Knapp, a passenger who was traveling in the front carriage of one of the trains involved in the collision, spoke to the BBC about the terrifying moment of impact. Knapp stated that he felt like he had been in a bomb explosion.

He described seeing smoke spreading everywhere inside the train, alongside passengers with bloodied faces and others who appeared to have suffered broken legs. Knapp also observed a large presence of emergency responders, including police officers, fire engines, and ambulances, actively working at the site.

As of Friday night, emergency services had not yet released official statements regarding the cause of the collision or the precise condition of the passengers involved.
