Dhi Artspace in Hyderabad Hosts Retrospective on Late Artist Srinivas Bobbili

A retrospective exhibition celebrating the life and practice of the late artist Srinivas Bobbili has opened at Dhi Artspace in Hyderabad. Titled "Srinivas Bobbili: A Biography of the Everyday," the exhibition brings together works that document lived experiences and everyday life, remaining on view until September 29.

Bobbili, who was born in Vijayawada and lived from 1979 to 2024, built his artistic practice around observing ordinary surroundings, including street scenes, familiar animals, and fleeting moments. Following his death earlier this year, the exhibition was organised to honour his memory and present his body of work to the public.

Bhargavi Gundala, founder and director of Dhi Artspace, described the retrospective as deeply personal, having previously studied with Bobbili, shared studio space, and collaborated on art camps. She noted that Bobbili was an exceptionally observant artist who constantly documented and archived everyday life, expressing himself quietly through his creations.

Curator Amit Kumar Vishwakarma stated that putting the exhibition together required more than six months of intensive preparation. The curation team reviewed a collection of more than 2,500 pieces to select works across various styles, time periods, moods, and mediums.

Drawing remained central to Bobbili's practice, though his output spanned a wide range of mediums including watercolour, acrylic, oil, etching, woodcut, and sculpture. The curated selection allows visitors to trace how his visual language evolved across different materials and subjects.
