Dhanush's Om Eyes October 16 Release, Setting Up Box Office Clash With Jailer 2

The makers of Dhanush's upcoming film "Om" are reportedly considering an October 16, 2026 theatrical release, setting the stage for a potential box office clash with Rajinikanth's "Jailer 2" in Tamil cinema.
"Jailer 2," directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and starring Rajinikanth in the lead role, is scheduled to hit theatres on October 15, 2026. If "Om" locks in its reported date, the two big-budget releases would arrive in cinemas just one day apart.
Currently in production, "Om" is directed by Rajkumar Periasamy and features Dhanush alongside veteran actor Mammootty. The prospect of both films releasing over the same weekend has created significant attention given the star power attached to each project.
However, discussions are underway to determine if the clash can be averted. The team behind "Om" is reportedly negotiating with streaming platform Netflix, as the project's existing over-the-top (OTT) agreement is considered a key factor dictating the current theatrical schedule.
If the digital agreement can be renegotiated, the release of "Om" may be postponed to a later date. A date change would also avoid a direct theatrical confrontation between Dhanush and Rajinikanth, with whom Dhanush shares a close bond and long-standing professional admiration.
For now, the mid-October 2026 window remains a major focal point for Tamil film trade circles as the final release plans for both productions take shape.
