DGP CV Anand Reviews Hyderabad Safe City Project to Install 862 More CCTV Cameras

Director-General of Police CV Anand chaired a high-level review meeting of the Safe City Project in Hyderabad on Friday to assess the progress of technology-driven policing and urban safety initiatives. The meeting, which included Commissioners of Police, Municipal Commissioners of the CURE Area, and representatives from the Women Safety, Transport, and other stakeholder departments, focused on expanding surveillance, restoring traffic signals, and improving safety infrastructure across the city.

During the review, officials assessed the expansion of the city's closed-circuit television (CCTV) network. Currently, 2,306 cameras are already operational under the Safe City Project, and another 862 cameras are being installed across the four commissionerates to enhance monitoring.

The meeting also addressed key public safety and urban infrastructure initiatives. The stakeholder departments decided to install 12 additional Mobile She Toilets across the city and restore 404 non-functional traffic signals to improve traffic flow and pedestrian safety.

In addition to restoring traffic signals, the review focused on strengthening pedestrian-friendly infrastructure and introducing special traffic management measures in congestion-prone areas. Public awareness campaigns will also be expanded as part of these safety measures.

According to DGP CV Anand, the approach to urban safety must evolve alongside the rapid growth of Hyderabad. The project emphasizes technology-driven policing, which includes maximizing the use of high-definition CCTV surveillance, establishing Integrated Command and Control Centres in all commissionerates, implementing Intelligent Traffic Management Systems, and utilizing artificial intelligence and smart monitoring.

Anand stated that these measures are designed to enable stronger crime prevention and ensure a faster emergency response. He added that the collective effort of the various departments is aimed at ensuring Hyderabad continues to remain one of the safest metropolitan cities in India while further enhancing the quality of life for its residents.
