DGP CV Anand Orders Welfare Upgrades and Recruitment for Telangana Special Battalions

Director General of Police C.V. Anand chaired a comprehensive review meeting of the Telangana Special Battalions (TGSP) at their headquarters in Jubilee Hills on Tuesday, directing officials to expedite recruitment and upgrade welfare facilities for personnel. Describing the TGSP as the backbone of the state police force, the DGP emphasized the need for modernization, transparent administration, and advanced training to address emerging security challenges.
Prior to the meeting, Mr. Anand inspected various sections of the Jubilee Hills headquarters, including the administrative wings, communication systems, armoury management, technical units, and infrastructure facilities. Following the inspection, he reviewed presentations from senior officers and issued a series of directives aimed at boosting the efficiency and living standards of the force.
To improve personnel welfare, the DGP instructed officials to fill vacant posts at the earliest opportunity. He also ordered the acceleration of projects to upgrade residential quarters, healthcare facilities, and drinking water supply, while also calling for an increase in vehicle availability.
Reflecting on the history of the force, Mr. Anand recalled the role of the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh Special Police during the peak of Left Wing Extremism, noting their collaboration with civil police in anti-Naxal operations. He stated that while Telangana has largely overcome the Naxal challenge, the special battalions must remain prepared for new security threats.
Since the formation of Telangana, the state has established 13 special battalions. These units are regularly deployed for elections, festivals, religious gatherings, VIP security, disaster management, and emergency responses.
To meet future policing requirements, Mr. Anand revealed that proposals are currently under consideration to establish new special battalions in the Future City and Amangal regions.
The DGP also stressed the importance of continuous training. He called for ongoing programs in technology, weapon handling, disaster management, communication skills, physical fitness, and mental resilience to ensure the force's operational readiness.
