DGP C.V. Anand Proposes Anti-Drug Committees in All Telangana Schools and Colleges

On Wednesday, Telangana Director General of Police (DGP) C.V. Anand announced a proposal to establish anti-drug and safety committees alongside campus safety coordinators in all schools, colleges, and educational institutions across Telangana to enforce a zero-tolerance policy against narcotics.

The announcement came during a high-level review meeting chaired by DGP Anand with officials of the Telangana Anti-Narcotics Bureau (EAGLE). The initiative aims to strengthen campus safety, promote anti-drug awareness, and enhance coordination between educational institutions, parents, and law enforcement to make campuses completely drug-free.

Under the proposed framework, every educational institution in the state will be required to appoint a dedicated campus safety coordinator. This coordinator will be tasked with overseeing student safety, managing anti-drug awareness programmes, coordinating counselling initiatives, and maintaining direct communication with parents and law enforcement agencies.

During the session, EAGLE officials presented a detailed presentation on the proposed framework, implementation mechanism, monitoring system, and operational guidelines for the committees. DGP Anand suggested several modifications to strengthen these guidelines and directed officials to prepare a comprehensive framework incorporating the recommendations.

Furthermore, Anand instructed officials to consider suggestions from the education department, experts, and other stakeholders while finalising the standard operating procedures and regulatory guidelines.

Reiterating the state's zero-tolerance policy towards drugs, the DGP warned that stringent action would be initiated against educational institutions found facilitating or ignoring drug-related activities. He stated that, wherever necessary, recommendations would be made to the competent authorities for the cancellation of their recognition.

The DGP also directed officials to include mandatory anti-drug awareness programmes during student admissions, deploy psychologists and counsellors, strengthen parental involvement, involve non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and conduct continuous awareness campaigns.

According to Anand, the police, education, and health departments will work in close coordination to implement this comprehensive anti-drug strategy across Telangana.
