Devadula Scheme Begins Pumping Godavari Water To Irrigate 3 Lakh Acres In Warangal

The Telangana government has commenced the continuous pumping of Godavari water under the Devadula Lift Irrigation Scheme to mitigate drought conditions in the erstwhile Warangal district. Station Ghanpur MLA and former deputy chief minister Kadiam Srihari announced on Sunday that the pumping operations, which he inspected at the Dharmasagar Reservoir, will run uninterrupted for one month to provide crucial irrigation to nearly three lakh acres of agricultural land.
An action plan has been prepared to fill multiple regional reservoirs within this one-month timeframe. The reservoirs targeted under this initiative include Dharmasagar, Station Ghanpur, Nawabpet, Ashwaraopally, Chitakoduru, and Bommakur.
According to Srihari, water is scheduled to be released into the canals within 15 days. This timeline is expected to enable local farmers to commence their cultivation and agricultural operations.
Srihari described the Devadula Lift Irrigation Scheme as a vital lifeline for the region. The project was originally launched in 2003 when Srihari served as the irrigation minister in undivided Andhra Pradesh. Over the years, the scheme has expanded to provide irrigation to nearly six lakh acres and supply drinking water across the entire area. Srihari stated that he considered it a privilege to be associated with the project from its inception, describing it as one of the most satisfying achievements of his political career.
In light of the prevailing drought conditions, Srihari appealed to the local farming community to use the water judiciously. He recommended that farmers adopt an "on-and-off" irrigation pattern to maximize the availability of the water.
Furthermore, Srihari noted that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, and Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy are closely monitoring the operations. He stated that the state leadership is according high priority to the project and urged farmers to cooperate with the government and the irrigation department for the efficient distribution and use of the water resources.
