DEO Issues Showcause Notices To Three Hyderabad EROs Over Slow Voter Roll Work

On Friday, Hyderabad District Electoral Officer (DEO) R.V. Karnan issued showcause notices to the Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) of the Sanathnagar, Musheerabad, and Secunderabad Cantonment Assembly segments. The notices were served due to the slow progress of the ongoing special intensive revision (SIR) data digitization of the electoral roll in these areas.

Karnan, who also serves as the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) commissioner, issued the notices after finding that the progress of data digitization in these three constituencies was significantly below the expected standards.

The official action followed a comprehensive review meeting conducted by the DEO to evaluate the overall progress of the SIR. The meeting was attended by all EROs and election officials of the Hyderabad district. The discussions focused primarily on the current status of data digitization, the timely completion of enumeration forms, and strict adherence to the schedule prescribed by the Election Commission.

During the review, Karnan expressed serious concern over the poor performance of the EROs in the Sanathnagar, Musheerabad, and Secunderabad Cantonment segments. Alongside the showcause notices, he conveyed a stern warning to all low-performing officers to improve their performance immediately.

To rectify the delays, the DEO directed all EROs across the district to closely monitor the digitization process. He ordered them to ensure absolute accuracy, complete all pending work in a timely manner, and maintain a strict record of daily progress.

Karnan reiterated that the electoral roll revision is a highly critical task and that any negligence, laxity, or delay in the SIR process will be viewed with extreme seriousness. He warned that appropriate disciplinary action will be initiated against the responsible officials if they fail to meet the standards and timelines.
