Demolition Begins at Collapsed Gachibowli Building After Two Workers Die

Authorities on Sunday commenced the demolition of an unauthorised seven-storey building that collapsed in Anjaiahnagar, Gachibowli, leaving two workers dead and several people in adjacent buildings injured.
The collapse occurred suddenly on Saturday afternoon, trapping two workers who were killed in the structure. The impact of the falling building caused injuries to individuals staying in neighbouring properties and resulted in structural damage to surrounding buildings.
On Sunday, teams from the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation, HYDRAA, and other agencies arrived at the site under police protection to begin clearing and pulling down the illegal construction. Officials deployed a JCB to dismantle the remaining portions of the building. However, persistent drizzle in the area hampered the progress of the demolition works.
Officials also instructed the occupants of nearby damaged buildings to immediately vacate their accommodations. Authorities noted that these neighbouring structures were likewise constructed in violation of existing building regulations, raising safety concerns in the wake of the collapse.
Following the directive, affected residents, including students, working professionals, and other occupants, were seen packing their belongings and moving out to find alternative accommodation.
A police picket has been deployed in Anjaiahnagar to secure the area, manage the perimeter, and prevent any untoward incidents as demolition operations continue.
