HYDERABAD — The All India Bazm-e-Rehmat-e-Alam has announced the conferment of the Rehmat-e-Alam Peace Award 2026 on Deepak Kumar, popularly known as ‘Muhammad’ Deepak, in recognition of his efforts to foster communal harmony and promote peace and brotherhood.
The award will be formally presented during programmes organised to mark Milad-un-Nabi, the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad. The organisation selected Kumar to honour his symbolic gesture of solidarity, which gained widespread attention as a message of unity and compassion across communities.
Kumar, a resident of Kotdwar in Uttarakhand, came into the spotlight after stepping forward to support an elderly Muslim shopkeeper during a tense situation. During the incident, he identified himself as "Muhammad Deepak," an act that resonated widely and was discussed as a meaningful symbol of communal unity and mutual respect among citizens.
According to the organisers, the Rehmat-e-Alam Peace Award honours individuals who actively work to maintain social harmony, encourage mutual respect among diverse communities, and uphold universal human values.
The organisers stated that Kumar's actions embodied the spirit of compassion and peaceful coexistence, values that remain central to the teachings of Islam and the broader message of humanity.
