Dasoju Sravan Urges Revanth Reddy to Fill 19,000 Teacher Vacancies in Telangana

Dasoju Sravan Urges Revanth Reddy to Fill 19,000 Teacher Vacancies in Telangana

Bharat Rashtra Samithi MLC Dasoju Sravan on Monday demanded urgent government intervention to resolve what he termed a deepening crisis in Telangana's school and higher education sectors, urging Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to fill more than 19,000 vacant teacher posts and release an annual District Selection Committee calendar.

In an open letter addressed to the Chief Minister in Hyderabad on World Teachers' Day, Sravan criticised the Congress administration over the closure of approximately 1,392 government schools across the state in a single academic year between 2024-25 and 2025-26, citing Unified District Information System for Education data.

Highlighting systemic shortfalls across the state, Sravan pointed out that around 2,245 government schools recorded zero student enrolment during the 2024-25 academic year. Furthermore, records from 2024-25 indicated that 4,793 schools functioned with only a single teacher managing approximately 64,057 students.

Sravan stated that over 19,000 teacher posts currently remain vacant in state-run schools. He questioned the delay by the Congress government in issuing the mega DSC recruitment notification that had been promised under its official job calendar, stating that the Chief Minister must take corrective structural measures rather than merely extending ceremonial greetings on World Teachers' Day.

The MLC placed several demands before the state government, including a comprehensive white paper on school closures and mergers, an end to contractual teaching appointments in favour of regular recruitment, and immediate measures to guarantee at least two teachers in every school. He also urged the government to protect senior teachers impacted by mandatory Teacher Eligibility Test rules.

Regarding service conditions, Sravan sought the immediate announcement of the Pay Revision Commission, the release of pending dearness allowances, annual calendars for teacher promotions and transfers, and the filling of vacant District Education Officer and Mandal Education Officer posts.

Turning to higher education, Sravan called for the filling of all university faculty vacancies within one academic year, the appointment of a full-time Education Minister, and strict action against alleged exploitation within private educational institutions. He requested written answers to his queries, an all-party meeting to review the sector, and an increase in education spending to at least 15 percent of the state budget, with a roadmap toward 18 percent.
