Dasoju Sravan Demands Telangana University Student Polls Before Age Limit Cut

BRS MLC Dasoju Sravan challenged Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy in Hyderabad to conduct student union elections across State universities before advocating a reduction in the minimum age for contesting legislative elections.

Sravan was responding to remarks made by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy proposing to allow 21-year-olds to enter State Assemblies and Parliament. Sravan urged the government to first restore democratic processes on university campuses, questioning why student union elections under the State government's jurisdiction had not been held.

The BRS leader pointed out that changing the eligibility age for Parliament or State Assemblies would require amendments by the Central government. However, conducting student union elections across State universities falls entirely within the powers of the State government.

Sravan emphasized that leadership begins on college campuses and called on the Chief Minister to move beyond rhetoric. He stated that if the government genuinely intends to empower youth, it should allow students to learn and practise democracy through elected student unions.
