Dasoju Sravan Accuses Telangana Govt of Misusing Section 22A Land Rules

BRS MLC Dasoju Sravan has accused the Congress-led Telangana government of misusing Section 22A of the Registration Act to target urban property owners in Hyderabad and across the state. In a statement issued on Sunday, he alleged that the administration was using the regulation to cause hardship rather than functioning as an urban land ceiling mechanism.
Sravan stated that private plots and patta lands, including properties registered decades ago, were being abruptly added to the 22A prohibited list. He said this has created panic among ordinary citizens attempting to sell land to cover essential family and medical expenses.
According to the BRS legislator, affected property owners are being forced to navigate multiple government departments without resolution. He alleged that citizens are running between MRO offices, Collectorates, and registration offices, only to encounter jurisdictional disputes, pending reports, and locked administrative portals.
He added that individuals with valid documentation are subjected to procedural delays and alleged demands for bribes. Sravan also pointed out that the designated toll-free grievance number, 1800 599 4788, was not operational.
The MLC further alleged that real estate middlemen and ruling-party benamis are exploiting the distress of landowners by purchasing restricted properties at throwaway prices under promises of managing officials. Sravan claimed that these properties are subsequently cleared and removed from the 22A list after changing hands.
Highlighting systemic risks, Sravan warned that any blanket relaxation of the 22A restrictions could lead to the misuse and clearance of lands belonging to water bodies, Wakf properties, endowments, and government categories alongside genuine private holdings. He also alleged that land details pertaining to Hyderabad district have been removed from the Bhu Bharati website.
