Cybercrime Case Booked in Secunderabad Over AI-Generated Explicit Media

HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Cybercrime police have registered a criminal case against an unidentified individual for allegedly creating and circulating explicit artificial intelligence (AI)-generated images and videos of a woman residing in Secunderabad.

The victim, an Air India cabin crew member, was targeted by the suspect who reportedly obtained her photographs from her publicly accessible Instagram account.

The incident came to light after the woman's 35-year-old husband, an Army employee based in Secunderabad, formally lodged a complaint with the cybercrime authorities. He stated that the accused had extracted his wife’s face from her social media pictures to fabricate deepfake nude photos and explicit videos.

According to police, more than 200 manipulated posts were subsequently uploaded and shared across multiple online platforms, including Reddit, Instagram, and Discord. The perpetrator also circulated the fabricated material to individuals known to the victim in an effort to defame her reputation and extort her.

The complainant noted that the repeated sharing of the morphed content on public forums caused immense harassment and reputational damage to his wife.

Following the complaint, the Hyderabad Cybercrime police booked the unidentified offender under Section 66-C for identity theft and Section 67 for publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form under the Information Technology Act.

The police also invoked provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), registering charges under Section 336(4) for electronic record forgery aimed at harming reputation, as well as Section 79 for insulting the modesty of a woman.

Cybercrime officials stated that an active investigation is currently underway to trace the digital footprint of the social media accounts involved and identify the person responsible for creating and distributing the explicit material.
