Cyberabad Municipal Corporation Plans Waste Management Campaign Across 76 Wards

HYDERABAD — The Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) is planning to launch a city-wide waste management and awareness campaign across its 76 wards in Hyderabad to improve source segregation, curb open dumping, and boost citizen participation in local cleanliness initiatives.

The civic body, which serves approximately 12.27 lakh households, currently generates between 900 and 1,000 tonnes of municipal waste every day.

Several key solid waste management gaps have been identified within the corporation's limits. These issues include low levels of source segregation by residents, the transportation of mixed waste, limited public awareness regarding recycling practices, open dumping, and persistent garbage vulnerable points across neighbourhoods.

In addition, civic officials have noted growing concerns regarding the improper disposal of sanitary items, domestic hazardous waste, e-waste, and biomedical waste.

To address these operational and environmental challenges, the CMC plans to engage specialised agencies. These agencies will be tasked with strengthening waste segregation at the source, improving overall public participation, enhancing operational efficiency, and ensuring regulatory compliance throughout the municipal area.
