Customs Seize Gold Worth Rs 3.36 Crore at RGIA, Two Passengers Arrested

The Hyderabad Customs’ Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) seized 2.271 kilograms of smuggled gold worth approximately Rs 3.36 crore at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) on June 25, 2026. Following the recovery of the gold, customs officials arrested two Indian passengers who had arrived in Hyderabad from Kuala Lumpur.
The operation was carried out based on specific intelligence received by the AIU. Acting on this information, the customs officers intercepted the two passengers immediately after their arrival at the airport on June 25.
During a subsequent detailed frisking and physical examination, the officers discovered the contraband. The passengers had concealed the gold in paste form. It was hidden inside specially stitched pouches that were placed along the waistline of the trousers they were wearing. To secure the contraband, the pouches had been wrapped in white cellophane tape.
To determine the exact quantity and purity of the gold, customs officials sought professional help. The concealed paste material was extracted with the assistance of a goldsmith for further examination. The final extraction revealed 2.271 kilograms of gold, valued at about Rs 3.36 crore.
Following the recovery, the two Indian passengers were taken into custody. The Hyderabad Customs department has officially seized the gold and arrested both individuals. A further investigation into the smuggling attempt is currently underway to gather more details.
