Customs Hyderabad Urges Regional Exporters to Adopt Modern Digital Systems

HYDERABAD — The Customs department has transitioned from a traditional duty collection agency into a trade facilitator, Additional Commissioner of Customs Hyderabad P Satish said, urging local exporters to leverage modernised and transparent customs procedures to expand their international footprint.

Speaking to regional entrepreneurs at an export awareness workshop organised by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) in association with the Warangal Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Satish noted that nearly 90 percent of import consignments are now facilitated seamlessly with zero interference.

Satish explained that the department has implemented advanced digital measures, including the E-sealing process and the E-way bill system for container movement. These systems ensure transparency and provide real-time data monitoring, which prevents tampering while speeding up clearances for businesses.

The workshop focused on demystifying the ATA Carnet and UN TIR systems, which serve as mechanisms for seamless international trade. S Vijayalakshmi, Director at FICCI, emphasised the industry body's critical role as the national issuing and guaranteeing association for both systems in India.

Addressing the regional trade context, Bommineni Ravinder Reddy, President of the Warangal Chamber of Commerce and Industry, highlighted the significant potential of Warangal's agro-based exports. He pointed to the heavy outward flow of agricultural commodities, particularly chilies and mangoes, destined for Southeast Asian markets, urging traders to take advantage of trade facilitation systems to grow their businesses.
