Council Chairman Gutha Sukhender Reddy Backs Cabinet Reshuffle

Telangana Legislative Council Chairman Gutha Sukhender Reddy has suggested a reshuffle of the State Cabinet to introduce newness, while urging ruling Congress party leaders not to create obstacles for Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy.

Speaking during an informal interaction in the Legislative Council, Mr. Reddy said that the Chief Minister is young and dynamic, emphasizing that party leaders should align with him and allow him to function freely without creating unnecessary impediments.

Mr. Reddy also called for stricter discipline within the ruling Congress party, warning that a failure to take action against leaders who breach party lines could prove harmful to the party's interests. He noted that if internal issues were properly addressed, the Congress government could return to power in the state.

Touching upon land-related issues, the Council Chairman stated that the state government should abolish Section 22-A restrictions to resolve the ongoing controversies linked to them. He noted that although Section 22-A existed during the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi regime, it ought to be scrapped now to resolve administrative and public difficulties.

On government welfare programmes, Mr. Reddy offered several recommendations. He suggested that existing social security pensions of ₹2,000 should be enhanced. He also recommended that the Rythu Bharosa agricultural support scheme be continued, with its benefits strictly restricted to eligible farmers.

Mr. Reddy observed that the current Congress administration is continuing several initiatives from the previous BRS regime alongside introducing new schemes. He claimed there was no widespread dissatisfaction among the public regarding the welfare schemes. However, he stressed the necessity of improving publicity around government initiatives so that citizens remain fully informed about the benefits available to them.
