Congress May Drop Endowments Minister Konda Surekha From Revanth Reddy Cabinet

HYDERABAD — The top leadership of the Congress party has reportedly decided to either ask embattled Telangana Endowments Minister Konda Surekha to resign or drop her from Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy's cabinet, according to All India Congress Committee (AICC) sources.

The development follows a clear signal from the party high command on Wednesday, when senior Congress leader and General Secretary (Organisation) K. C. Venugopal refused to grant a meeting to Surekha.

Party president Mallikarjun Kharge held detailed discussions on the matter with Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Mahesh Kumar Goud, and AICC state in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan. A senior AICC leader indicated that if a resolution regarding Surekha and G. Chinna Reddy was not reached by Wednesday night, the Chief Minister and senior state leaders were scheduled to meet Rahul Gandhi late Wednesday night or Thursday to finalize the decision.

Despite the mounting pressure from the party high command, a defiant Surekha maintained that she would not step down from her ministerial post. She stated that if disciplinary action is initiated against her, similar action must also be taken against Chief Minister Revanth Reddy.

Sources revealed that during her communication with Kharge, Surekha defended her family, explaining that her daughter, K. Sushmitha, may have been provoked by public remarks made by the Chief Minister. Revanth Reddy had previously announced that the sitting MLA for the Parkal constituency would contest the seat again in the future, which reportedly triggered the dispute.
