Congress High Command Will Decide on Konda Surekha Issue, Says CM Revanth Reddy

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy stated on Monday in Hyderabad that the Congress high command is examining the issue surrounding minister Konda Surekha and will make an official decision, emphasizing that all party members must abide by the leadership's ruling.

Speaking to the media in Hyderabad, Revanth Reddy declined to comment directly on the internal party matter or respond to speculation regarding whether Surekha could be dropped from the State Cabinet. He noted that the party's disciplinary committee is reviewing the situation and that its final decision remains awaited. He reiterated that any decision taken by the central leadership and the disciplinary committee must be respected across the board.

The controversy began after remarks were made by Surekha's daughter, Sushmita Patel, against the Chief Minister and his family members at Geesukonda last week. The remarks, which were viewed as anti-Chief Minister and anti-Congress, sparked protests among sections of party workers and leaders.

Following the remarks, the disciplinary committee intervened and served showcause notices on Surekha. The notices questioned why the senior leader and Cabinet minister had failed to condemn her daughter's statements. Surekha subsequently submitted two letters to the disciplinary committee detailing and explaining her position.

Following his interaction with the media, the Chief Minister convened a meeting with select ministers, MLAs, MLCs, and MPs in Hyderabad. According to official sources, the issue regarding Konda Surekha was discussed extensively during the session, with a majority of attending leaders calling for strict disciplinary action against her.

However, Revanth Reddy asked the leaders to exercise patience while the Congress high command reviews the issue. He also advised party representatives to refrain from issuing public remarks on the matter until the party leadership delivers its final decision.
