Confined Warangal Woman Returns To Hyderabad After Rescue From Muscat

A 45-year-old woman from Warangal, who was allegedly confined and harassed in Muscat for nearly 25 days, reached Hyderabad safely on Tuesday, August 11, 2026. The victim, Mohammed Mahamuda, was rescued following the intervention of BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao, who coordinated rescue efforts with official channels and offered to bear her travel expenses.

Ms. Mahamuda had traveled to Oman on July 16 on a tourist visa after being promised domestic employment. Upon her arrival, an agent handed her over to a sub-agent, who seized her passport and mobile phone before confining her to a room.

She alleged that she was forced to work against her wishes and was subjected to physical assault and harassment. When she asked to return to India, she was threatened with being implicated in a false theft case. The sub-agent reportedly demanded ₹1.13 lakh for her release, claiming that the sum had been spent on bringing her to Muscat.

The matter was brought to the attention of Mr. Rao, who promised to cover the expenses for her return. Working alongside the BRS NRI Cell, efforts were made to trace her with the assistance of the Indian Embassy and Muscat Police. Following nearly a week of search efforts, Ms. Mahamuda was located and rescued.

She was subsequently taken to the Indian Embassy and kept under the care of officials for three days while her passport was recovered from the sub-agent.

Speaking to the media upon her arrival in Hyderabad, Ms. Mahamuda thanked Mr. Rao and everyone involved in securing her release. She stated that Mr. Rao responded immediately after learning about her situation, coordinating with the BRS NRI Cell, the Indian Embassy, and local authorities to ensure her safe return to her family.

Following her return, Mr. Rao urged citizens seeking employment in Gulf countries not to travel on tourist visas. He advised job seekers to travel strictly on valid work or employment visas and to thoroughly verify recruitment agents, employers, and job offers before leaving India to avoid exploitation.
