The Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) placed a Town Planning Building Officer under suspension on August 22 for allegedly failing to stop the unauthorised construction of a seven-storey building that collapsed in Anjaiah Nagar, Gachibowli, killing two people.

CMC Commissioner G. Srijana issued the order placing U. Santosh Kumar, Town Planning Building Officer (TPBO) of Circle 50, Madhapur, under suspension with immediate effect following the incident.

According to the official suspension order, the structure located at H.No. 1-60/113/135/1 was an unauthorised building. The development comprised a ground floor, six upper floors, and a penthouse.

The municipal administration stated that the officer had failed to take appropriate action to halt the unauthorised construction work. The administration noted that this failure resulted in the fatal collapse, leading to the loss of life and endangering public safety in the area.

The CMC noted that disciplinary proceedings against the officer are contemplated. Under the terms of the order, Kumar will remain under suspension until the conclusion of these proceedings.

In addition to the suspension, the municipal commissioner directed the officer not to leave his headquarters without prior permission. The order also specified that Kumar will be paid a subsistence allowance as admissible under the applicable service rules.
