CMC Orders Demolition of Unauthorised Buildings After Fatal Kondapur Collapse

Following the collapse of a multi-storey building in Kondapur that killed two people, the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) has ordered an intensified enforcement drive to demolish unauthorised under-construction buildings across the region.

The civic body's Town Planning and enforcement wings have received instructions to identify building violations based on plot size, construction height, and building approvals.

According to directives issued by CMC Commissioner G. Srijana, municipal officials have been tasked with identifying non-compliant structures under two distinct categories for immediate action.

The first category covers under-construction structures located on plots measuring below 75 square yards where the construction height exceeds seven metres.

The second category includes buildings situated on plots measuring above 75 square yards that are being erected without obtaining any official building permission, irrespective of the overall height of the structure.

The CMC stated that all under-construction properties falling under these two designated classifications will be slated for demolition as part of the enforcement drive.

Commissioner Srijana directed officials to identify non-compliant sites irrespective of the source of detection. Violations may be flagged either through direct complaints submitted by citizens or via suo motu identification by assigned field teams operating on the ground.

To ensure sustained enforcement and accountability among field personnel, the total number of demolitions carried out under these categories is being monitored on a daily basis starting Monday, August 24, 2026.
