CMC Orders Demolition of Illegal Buildings Following Fatal Gachibowli Collapse

Following the collapse of a seven-storeyed illegal apartment building in Anjaiah Nagar, Gachibowli, which killed two workers, Cyberabad Municipal Corporation Commissioner G Srijana on Monday ordered the identification and demolition of unauthorised under-construction structures across the jurisdiction.

Commissioner Srijana directed the civic body's Town Planning and enforcement teams to specifically target unauthorised under-construction buildings falling under defined categories. The move comes two days after the fatal building collapse incident in Gachibowli prompted urgent enforcement measures.

According to an official press statement, the enforcement drive will focus on under-construction buildings on plots measuring below 75 square yards where the construction has exceeded 7 metres in height. Additionally, officials have been instructed to identify and pull down any buildings on plots above 75 square yards that are being constructed without required building permissions, regardless of the height of the structure.

The Commissioner instructed civic teams that all under-construction buildings meeting these specific criteria must be taken up for demolition through targeted enforcement drives. Officials were directed to identify such unauthorized structures regardless of whether they were discovered through citizen complaints or detected suo motu by field teams.

To ensure continuous enforcement, accountability, and strict compliance, the civic administration will monitor the daily progress of demolitions carried out under these specified categories.

Field-level officials have been directed to maintain strict surveillance across their designated jurisdictions, promptly identify any non-compliant constructions, and take swift enforcement action to prevent further unauthorised building activity.
