CMC Demolishes Nine Buildings in Gachibowli Crackdown on Illegal Structures

Following the collapse of a seven-storey under-construction building in Gachibowli’s Anjayya Nagar, the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) intensified its enforcement drive on Monday, identifying 38 unauthorised structures for immediate civic action.

Under directions from CMC Commissioner G Srijana, town planning and enforcement teams conducted field inspections across the area. Of the 38 identified structures, officials demolished nine buildings, seized one property, and served unauthorised construction notices to 28 others.

The enforcement operation is focused on two specific categories of violations. On plots measuring below 75 square yards, authorities are taking action against under-construction buildings that exceed seven metres in height. On plots measuring above 75 square yards, any building being constructed without valid building permissions is being targeted regardless of its height.

Municipal officials stated that violating structures are being flagged through a combination of citizen complaints and suo motu field inspections. Commissioner Srijana instructed enforcement personnel to maintain strict field surveillance and introduced daily monitoring of demolitions to ensure sustained enforcement against illegal developments.

HYDRAA Commissioner AV Ranganath noted that dangerous structures in Anjayya Nagar are being systematically identified and pulled down to prevent potential loss of life. In response to resident complaints, officials are assessing surrounding buildings for structural integrity and regulatory compliance.

Ranganath explained that several properties had been erected in severe breach of safety regulations. In multiple cases, seven- to eight-storey structures were constructed on plots as small as 50 square yards where permissions had been granted for only two floors.

Officials also noted that foundations and pillars designed solely for two-storey loads were being forced to bear multi-storey additions, creating severe structural risks. Additionally, some builders had encroached upon stormwater channels, further compromising structural stability.
