CMC Demolishes 17 Unauthorised Buildings in Kukatpally and Other Zones After Collapse

The Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) launched an enforcement drive on Tuesday, demolishing 17 unauthorised under-construction buildings across multiple areas, including Kukatpally, following the fatal collapse of an illegal seven-storey structure at Anjaiah Nagar.

The enforcement action was initiated following directions from CMC Commissioner G Srijana after the Sunday building collapse, which claimed the lives of two workers. The demolitions carried out on Tuesday spanned three corporation zones, comprising two buildings in the Kukatpally zone, seven buildings in the Serilingampally zone, and eight buildings in the Quthbullapur zone.

Alongside the demolition of the 17 structures, municipal authorities served notices to 11 unauthorised constructions detected during the drive. Officials also identified 54 additional unauthorised constructions across the zones through multiple channels, including the MyCURE platform, Prajavani petitions, and direct field-level inspections by corporation staff.

According to a press release from the corporation, the identification and enforcement exercise is being conducted on a continuous basis to detect unauthorised constructions at their earliest stages and take immediate corrective measures. Commissioner Srijana instructed Town Planning and enforcement teams to conduct daily field-level monitoring, enhance detection of illegal works, and execute timely enforcement strictly in line with existing regulations.

In parallel with the civic crackdown, police action has continued against those responsible for the collapsed building. On Tuesday, the Raidurgam police took the absconding contractor, Mohammed Khaja Moinuddin, into custody. Moinuddin had been on the run since the structure collapsed on Sunday and has been named as an accused in the case alongside building owner Syed Sajid, who was arrested by police on Monday.
