CMC Cracks Down on 38 Unauthorised Buildings Across Gachibowli and Kukatpally

Following the collapse of an unauthorised building that killed two people in Anjaiahnagar, Gachibowli, the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) launched an enforcement crackdown on Monday, identifying 38 unauthorised under-construction buildings for immediate action.
During the drive, civic authorities served notices on 28 structures, seized one building, and demolished nine unauthorised constructions across the jurisdiction. The enforcement action came two days after the fatal collapse in Gachibowli prompted heightened scrutiny of illegal construction activity.
The enforcement operation specifically focused on plots measuring under 75 square yards where building height exceeded seven metres. In addition, officials initiated action against constructions on plots larger than 75 square yards that were being built entirely without official permission, regardless of their total height.
Civic authorities stated that these violations were flagged through a mix of public tip-offs and on-ground monitoring. Cases are being identified through citizen complaints as well as field inspections, according to a CMC official.
CMC Commissioner G. Srijana confirmed that enforcement teams will not limit their inspections solely to the immediate vicinity of the collapsed site in Anjaiahnagar, Gachibowli. She stated that inspections would cover all such illegal structures throughout the corporation's limits. Srijana added that ongoing and future demolitions would be carried out in close coordination with the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA).
Municipal officials also highlighted that several unauthorised structures have been erected directly over nalas, leaving them structurally weak and vulnerable to hazards. Dedicated structural assessments will be conducted on these nala-adjacent sites to prevent further mishaps.
Enforcement teams also carried out demolition activity in the Kukatpally Zone. Acting on official directives, CMC personnel executed demolitions at LIG-532 in the 7th Phase of KPHB. An official from the Kukatpally zone confirmed that enforcement staff participated in serving statutory notices and conducting demolitions, noting that further action will be taken as required in accordance with the commissioner's instructions.
