CMC and HYDRAA Inspect Dangerous Buildings After Gachibowli Collapse

The Cyberabad Municipal Corporation and the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency have launched inspections to identify dangerous buildings in Anjaiahnagar, Gachibowli, following the collapse of a seven-storey structure that killed two workers on Saturday.

HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath and Kukatpally Zonal Commissioner Mayank Singh inspected the site on Monday. Officials stated that urgent intervention was required across the area to avoid further loss of life.

Demolition and debris removal operations began on Sunday and continued through Monday. The collapsed building had been constructed on a plot measuring approximately 50 square yards and stood adjacent to another seven-storey structure that was also deemed hazardous by inspecting authorities.

During the site visit, local residents pointed out several other potentially unsafe structures in the locality. Ranganath stated that all flagged properties would be inspected and removed if they are confirmed to pose a danger.

Authorities noted that severe structural vulnerabilities in the neighbourhood stem from unauthorized vertical extensions on extremely small plots. Several buildings had municipal permission for only two floors, with foundations and load-bearing pillars designed accordingly, but were subsequently raised to seven or eight storeys without sanction.

Officials also found that multiple structures, including the one that collapsed on Saturday, had been erected over an encroached drain line. Precautionary measures during demolition have slowed down the removal process to prevent damage to nearby apartments and surrounding buildings, while residents of adjoining properties have been evacuated as a safety measure.
