CMC and Amazon India to build five free gig worker rest stops in Cyberabad

On July 13, 2026, the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) Serilingampally Zone partnered with Amazon India to establish five dedicated rest facilities for delivery partners and gig workers. The two organizations signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to set up 'Gig Workers Rest Stop Porta Cabins' under an initiative known as Project Ashray. These new facilities will be located across Cyberabad, specifically at Kondapur, Tellapur, Patancheru, Bharathi Nagar, and Chandanagar, to provide safe and accessible spaces for workers to rest during their daily working hours.
The project is being launched as part of Amazon India's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative. Under the terms of the signed agreement, Amazon India will bear the entire financial cost associated with both establishing and maintaining the five rest facilities. This ensures that the municipal corporation will not incur direct costs for the setup or the long-term upkeep of the porta cabins.
These rest stops are designed to be highly accessible and will be available entirely free of charge to gig workers representing all delivery and service platforms operating in the region. The facilities are not restricted to Amazon associates, allowing any gig worker in need of a break to utilize the amenities.
Each of the five porta cabins will be equipped with a comprehensive range of resources to ensure the comfort and well-being of the workers. The amenities planned for each site include a dedicated rest area, clean washrooms, and shower facilities. To assist workers during their shifts, the stops will also provide safe drinking water, secure lockers to store personal belongings, multiple mobile device charging points, and complimentary Wi-Fi connectivity.
In addition to these amenities, the facilities are designed with environmental sustainability in mind. Each porta cabin will be powered by solar energy and will feature integrated waste management systems to handle trash and maintain cleanliness at the sites.
Speaking on the significance of the partnership, CMC Commissioner G. Srijana emphasized the vital role that delivery and service partners play in the local community. She noted that gig workers form an integral part of Cyberabad’s rapidly evolving urban ecosystem. According to Srijana, Project Ashray is specifically intended to improve the daily comfort and overall well-being of these workers by providing them with dedicated, safe, and well-equipped rest facilities.
