CM Revanth Reddy Recommends Sacking Konda Surekha From Telangana Cabinet

Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Thursday decided to drop his Cabinet colleague Konda Surekha from the Council of Ministers with immediate effect. A formal recommendation has been submitted to Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla for Surekha's dismissal from the state cabinet, following a controversy triggered by remarks made against the Chief Minister and others by her daughter.

Reacting to the decision, Surekha condemned the move and maintained that the leadership ought to have sought her explanation before taking such an action. Speaking to a local vernacular television channel, she alleged that she was not consulted as per the rules and stated that no one had spoken with her before the dismissal decision was finalised.

Surekha explained that she had already submitted a response to the show-cause notice issued by the Congress high command. She added that she had also explained her position directly to All India Congress Committee (AICC) chief Mallikarjun Kharge during an in-person meeting in Delhi.

Defending her track record, Surekha asserted that she is a Backward Classes (BC) candidate, a five-time MLA, and has served twice as a Cabinet minister. She alleged that the current action represents a planned attack coordinated against her by local leaders within the region.

Surekha also questioned why she was being held accountable for statements made by her daughter. She pointed out that her daughter is an independent woman and maintained that she has no authority to take issue with her daughter's personal opinions, adding that she sees no reason to condemn the remarks.

Following the move, speculation has grown in political circles that Surekha plans to resign from both her MLA post and from the primary membership of the Congress party if the disciplinary action proceeds. Alongside the decision regarding Surekha, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy also rescinded the appointment of G Chinna Reddy as Vice Chairman of the State Planning Board with immediate effect, replacing him with Gadwal Vijayalakshmi.
