CM Revanth Reddy Orders HMRL to Add Metro Coaches, Speed Up Old City Route

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Tuesday directed the Hyderabad Metro Rail Ltd (HMRL) to increase train coaches to handle growing passenger traffic and accelerate work on the Phase-II Old City Metro corridor connecting MGBS to Chandrayangutta in Hyderabad.

Speaking at a high-level review meeting with senior administration and metro officials, the Chief Minister observed that daily passenger traffic on the Hyderabad Metro has been rising steadily. To manage this expanding commuter load effectively, he instructed HMRL to take immediate operational measures, including the acquisition of additional coaches for the network's trains.

Focusing on the Old City connectivity, Revanth Reddy issued explicit orders regarding the 7.5-kilometre Metro Rail stretch running from MGBS to Chandrayangutta under Metro Phase-II. He directed officials to fast-track land acquisition and complete essential road-widening works along the entire 7.5-km route early so that the tendering process for Metro Rail works can begin promptly.

To guarantee efficient implementation and high technical standards for the Old City line, the Chief Minister asked officials to consult the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). He stressed the importance of drawing on DMRC's expertise and obtaining advice regarding the latest contemporary technologies that can be adopted for the execution of this Phase-II project.

The review meeting saw the participation of several senior state government and metro administration officials. Those present included Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju, Special Chief Secretary Jayesh Ranjan, and government advisers K. Ramakrishna Rao and N.V.S. Reddy. HMRL Managing Director Sarfaraz Ahmed, Additional Managing Director B. Ajith Reddy, and other top officers were also in attendance during the discussions.
