Chandrayangutta Police Arrest Auto Driver For Carrying Eight Passengers

The Chandrayangutta police in Hyderabad arrested a 35-year-old auto-rickshaw driver on Friday for carrying eight passengers in his vehicle. The arrest followed a video of the overcrowded auto-rickshaw that went viral on social media. The driver was booked under charges of negligent driving and endangering passenger safety during a journey from Bahadurpura towards Chandrayangutta.
The police identified the driver as Abdul Hameed Khan, who resides in Bismillah Colony in Kothapet. The video that led to his arrest had been uploaded to social media platforms three days prior, eventually coming to the attention of the local police department.
According to the police, Khan was driving his auto-rickshaw from Bahadurpura towards Chandrayangutta after picking up a group of cooks from a function. While the vehicle was in motion, local residents spotted the occupants hanging precariously off the sides and the rear of the auto-rickshaw. A video of the overloaded vehicle was captured and subsequently shared online.
A preliminary inquiry conducted by the police revealed that the passengers being transported were hotel workers, and all of them were adults.
Upon reviewing the driver's history, officials noted that Abdul Hameed Khan had no previous cases or traffic challans pending against him.
Following the viral video coming to light, the Chandrayangutta police took the driver into custody on Friday. A case was officially registered against him for negligent driving and endangering the safety of his passengers. The police have stated that further investigation into the incident is currently underway.
