Chanchalguda Prison Opens Immersive Jail Experience Programme in Telangana

The Telangana Prisons & Correctional Services has launched the Telangana Jail Experience, an immersive programme at the Chanchalguda Prison Complex. Running from August 25 to September 30, the initiative offers visitors aged 18 and above an opportunity to experience the structured daily routines, rules, and environment of a correctional facility.

To replicate real prison life, participants must surrender their mobile phones upon arrival and adhere strictly to the schedule. Visitors are issued standard jail uniforms, provided prison-style plates and glasses, and served the same meals as inmates.

The routine starts at 6 am and includes physical training, yoga, meditation, and parade drills. Participants are also assigned work and vocational activities such as tailoring, agriculture, and facility cleaning. In addition to daily chores, attendees learn about prison rules, correctional procedures, and ongoing rehabilitation practices under staff supervision.

For participants choosing overnight stays, separate and secure barracks are provided for men and women. The facility offers access to standard barracks as well as high-security areas with enhanced supervision. Visitors can also experience supervised high-security and dark-cell environments during the programme.

The department has introduced four booking options based on duration. A four-hour visit costs Rs 500, the eight-hour package is priced at Rs 750, the 12-hour option costs Rs 1,000, and the full 24-hour overnight experience is available for Rs 1,500. Participants are required to maintain discipline, cooperate with staff, and actively participate in all scheduled tasks throughout their stay.
