Centre Sanctions Rs 1 Crore Each for Seven Model Solar Villages in Telangana

Thirty districts across Telangana have been declared for the development of Model Solar Villages under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, Union Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy Yesso Naik stated in the Rajya Sabha.

Responding to a question raised by BJP MP Dr. K. Laxman regarding the development of solar villages in the state, Naik said that across India, state implementing agencies have reported the declaration of Model Solar Villages in 477 districts.

Based on detailed project reports submitted by the State Implementing Agency of Telangana, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has sanctioned project reports for seven declared villages in the state. Each of these seven villages has been approved for Central Financial Assistance of Rs 1 crore.

The Central Financial Assistance is intended to support the adoption of rooftop solar systems, develop related local infrastructure, and promote community-level livelihood opportunities within the selected rural areas.

Under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana guidelines, the development of a Model Solar Village is designated for one village per district, backed by central financial assistance of up to Rs 1 crore per village. The ministry has previously issued operational guidelines detailing the specific criteria and parameters required for village selection.

To drive local participation, the State Implementing Agency in Telangana has been carrying out awareness programmes at both district and village levels. These programmes are conducted in coordination with Rural Electrification Corporation Limited, which serves as the National Programme Implementing Agency for the scheme.

Officials noted that the outreach and infrastructure development under the initiative are aimed at driving clean energy adoption, improving sustainable development, and creating long-term livelihood avenues for rural residents across Telangana.
