Central Team to Inspect Alternative Sites for Kothagudem Airport on Sept 7

HYDERABAD — A central technical team will visit Telangana on September 7 to inspect alternative sites for the proposed Kothagudem airport in Bhadradri Kothagudem district, state Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao announced on Tuesday.

The announcement followed a meeting between Tummala Nageswara Rao and Union Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu in New Delhi.

According to the minister, two locations examined previously were deemed unsuitable for airport construction due to technical constraints. In response, the Telangana government identified four to five alternative sites and submitted them to the Union government for evaluation.

Tummala stated that the technical team will carry out field-level assessments of the newly proposed sites, examining geographical factors, climatic conditions, and overall technical feasibility for building an airport.

The Union Civil Aviation Minister assured the state that the Centre will take further necessary steps toward establishing the airport if the technical team submits a favourable report.

Highlighting the significance of the project, Tummala noted that an airport would boost connectivity and regional development in Bhadradri Kothagudem district, which attracts numerous visitors as the home of the Sri Sitaramachandra Swamy temple at Bhadrachalam.
